Psg 1 Carausius Morosus
Caresheet
Country of origin: India
Food: Ivy, bramble, raspberry, (winter-,summer-,stone-, american-) oak, salal, rhododendron, pyracantha, hazelnut(this is a very polyfagious species)
Temperature: this stick insect can live in a lot of temperatures, but the best is(just like with the most species) to keep them on room temperature.
Humidity: this is also something that psg 1 doesn't really needs. You can choose if you keep them humid or in a dry area.
Equipement:a standard terrarium (3x the length of the stick insect for the heigth and two times the length for the wide and dept of the terrarium). Some paper towels and a bottle with food plants and some water in it is well for this phasmid.
Sex determination: this stick insect has only females, the animals become 8 cm long .You can have gyandomorphs, but that's rare so most of the time you have simply females.
Breeding: Parthenogenetic.
Incubation period:2-5 months, that depends of the environnement you keep them in.
Number of molts:6 times and then they are adult
Lifespan (nymph):it takes the animals 5-7 months to become adult. But this also depends of the environnement.
Lifespan (adult): the females live just some months after they became adult.
breeding speed: this species grows fast and lays a lot of eggs. Don't keep too many, because they hatch very good. 20 eggs is enough.
Special behaviour: carausius morusus can stretch its frontlegs on a way that the head fits
just between them. In this posture they really look like a stick.
special (outer) characteristics: Adult animals have red 'armpits'. The nymphs can have
different colours.
