Caresheet
Country of origin: Peru and Ecuador
Food: Only fern is accepted as food. If you buy these in a shop, watch out that the plants don't have chemicals on them!
Temperature: This species can't tolerate high temperatures or quick temperature changes. Don't keep them on a termperature higher than 25°c.
Humidity: Try to keep them humid, but be carefull that you don't have mold! You can spray them a little bit every evening, that's perfect.
Sex determination: The males are mostly red and thin, the females are bigger and the are black with white and yellow coloured. The males become 6 cm long and the females 7 cm. Male and female nymphs look identically like the adult females, you can only see if it's a male or a female by the little black drawning at the back of their abdomen. The males have a point and the females an 'Y'
Breeding: sexual breed.
Incubation period: 3-4 months. Keep the eggs a bit humid and let them lay in the terrarium, because they are very fragile.
Number of molts: males 5 times, females 6 times.
Lifespan(nymph): the animals are adult after approximatelly 5 months on room temperature.
Lifespan(adult) : when they are adult, they can live for maximum 10 months.
Special behaviour: This species is day active. When you interrupt them brutally , they can separate a white liquid that smells a lot. Wash your hands very well when you have that on you skin, or use plastic gloves. Don't keep to many animals, because then they can eat each other.
special (outer) characteristics: This species is very bright coloured and they have very long feelers. They can come in many colours: green, yellow and red.
